Your first step is to identify your goals and prioritize them as they relate to a potential purchase. Think of yourself as zeroing in on a target, going from the general to the specific. Consider the city, neighborhood (older and settled, or sparkling new; a particular school zone; recreational facilities; other community services such as transportation, day care, library, stores, entertainment). Number of bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, size of yard, parking spaces (covered and uncovered), etc. Ask yourself how many minutes you are willing to commute to work. If you are considering an investment property, then also outline the expected return on your investment and the corresponding timeline to fruition.

 
Your Next Step: Pre-Qualification
